Frederick Horsman Varley was one of the most celebrated painters out of the Group of Seven. He loved to paint the landscape of the beautiful state we live in. Varley’s words about the war described what the members of the Group of Seven felt. “ [ war ] everlastingly tainted [ us ] with its abortiveness and its barbarous play. ” Varley was profoundly disturbed by the war. The war pictures had brought him to the head painters in Canada. He no longer wanted to paint Ontario landscapes. but wanted to predate his calling in painting portrayals. Frederick Varley and Lawren Harris began painting portrayals together. He moved to British Columbia and began learning at the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts in 1926.
He was the caput of pulling. picture. and composings. He painted the mountains and exuberant flora that grew there. For the following 10 old ages. he had painted 100s of landscapes. In 1933. he founded his ain school called the AB College of Arts. This led him to bankruptcy in 1935. Varley’s matrimony began to fall apart in 1938. He moved to Ottawa to go on his portraitist calling entirely. He struggled with alcohol addiction in Montreal. After this. he devoted himself chiefly to portrayals for many old ages.
